According to the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) energy usage is reduced by 74 percent for steel and iron, 85 percent for copper and 95 percent for aluminum whenthese metals are recycled.

When aluminum is recycled instead of creating brand new, energy conservation can be as much as 14 megawatt hours of electricity and 8 tons of ore, while recycled steel processing conserves 120 pounds of limestone, 1,400 pounds of coal and 2,500 pounds of ore.
